Mijeong (Mimi) Huh, soprano, grew up in a musical environment, singing both in church and at school, and was inspired and mentored by her elder sister, who is a professional singer in South Korea. She began singing in public at the age of ten. In her lessons, she aims to bring out her students’ strengths while building a solid foundation in the fundamentals, such as breathing technique and proper posture. Ms. Huh is a patient and caring teacher who has worked with students of a wide range of ages and skill levels.
Ms. Huh performed as a soprano soloist in several of Bach’s Cantatas, as well as various Oratorios such as Handel’s Messiah and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. She has performed recitals including Voices of Spring, accompanied by Allan Conway, and Bachianas Brasileiras, with cello ensemble conducted by Kangho Lee at the University of Connecticut. She taught voice lessons as a faculty member at the Community School of the Arts in the Center for Continuing Studies, and is currently a soloist at the First Korean Presbyterian Church in Manchester.
Ms. Huh received a Bachelor of Music degree from Yeungnam University in South Korea, a Master of Music in vocal performance from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in vocal performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. For her D.M.A. degree, she researched a British female composer, Rebecca Clarke (1886-1979) and her music, and performed most of Clarke’s beautiful songs for public audiences.
